Elite Fly – my new favourite bottle

The new Elite Fly water bottle is a terrific choice for road cycling. It’s available in 550ml and 750ml sizes, is BPA free and fine in your dishwasher… but most of all it’s great to drink from

For many, many years, I’ve been a loyal Camelbak Podium user. In fact, I’ve rarely ridden with anything else. However when the news about Camelbak’s owner Vista Outdoor being a supporter of the NRA (National Rifle Association) in the USA, I decided it was time to look at switching. That’s a personal choice and not one I’m advocating anyone else does, it’s just something I decided I wanted to do.

Last week, I was invited to join UK Distributor Madison on a press ride in Wales (more about that soon). For the ride we were all issued with Madison Genesis Team water bottles and they’re the Elite Fly for this season.

I was instantly converted and here’s why: They’re great to drink out of. It really is that simple. The top cap is easy to open and drink from as you ride and material used on the body of the bottle is the most “squeezy” of any water bottle I’ve used. The combination of the well designed cap and spout along with a body you simply squeeze to drink from, works brilliantly. I don’t even care that apparently they’re the lightest water bottle you can buy.

I’ve always particularly disliked bottles that are made from stiff plastic that are difficult or impossible to squeeze as I find them hard to drink from when I ride. In fairness, my previous favourite the Podium wasn’t brilliant in this respect but the flow through the nozzle made up for it.

Frankly the Elite Fly is just a better bottle.

It’s available in either 550ml or 750ml sizes. I’ve only tried the 550ml size so far. It’s also available in a wide range of colours, which is nice if you want to match your bike ….or socks!
