A highlight for me of this years Cycle Show was seeing one of Britains two new Road Cycling World Champion, Lucy Garner open the show to the public on Friday morning. Soon after the official opening and her interview with David Harmon of Eurosport, I happened to be walking past where she was getting some photos taken – with another UK cycling legend Malcolm Elliot and I couldn't resist taking a snap for giro di lento 🙂
Lucy's is an amazing story – in her first year of road racing she's won the women's junior world road racing championship which I think it simply amazing. Not only an amazing talent on the bike but she also comes across as a genuinely nice and down to earth women and I hope she inspires many more women to ride.Â
You can read a good interview here:Â http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/road/article/roa20110930-road-Interview–Road-World-Champion-Lucy-Garner-0Â and the story of her race here:Â http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/cycling/8784039/UCI-Road-Cycling-World-Championships-2011-Great-Britains-Lucy-Garner-wins-gold-medal-in-junior-road-race.html
There's an video interview from the show here tooÂ
Lucy's definitely a super talent with a great future and another example of the amazing health of British Cycling at present (and I say that as non-Brit).
